I am very happy at the news of this alliance, but the press release is a bit confusing on this point.

I am assuming (so could very well be wrong) that they are emphasizing Phoenix and Edmonton because America West serves them both nonstop out of LAX, and they are not served nonstop by Qantas' other codeshare partners of AA and Alaska...

All other America West nonstop LAX routes are served by their existing codeshare partners, so there will be no overlap.
