The agent called the hotel directly and came back and said there would be no actual monetary charge but that they would keep ALL the points for the 8 nights reserved on points and the free night certificate that I used for the 9th night if we canceled within those 30 days prior to our stay. Does this sound accurate? Anyone ever have to cancel at the last minute? Seems there is no way to insure this at all if they are just going to keep the points. Heaven forbid any of us ever have a true emergency and have to cancel.
Following up on the above, I just called the hotel directly using the "customer care" number listed on my reservations. The nice man I spoke with said they do not charge a monetary penalty, but they do charge one night's points (120,000) for cancellations within the 30-days leading up to the reservation. I asked if that would be 360,000 points since we have 3 reservations and he said, no, they recognize and link multiple reservations for the same people and it would only be one night's points. I reiterated the question several different ways and he confirmed that it would only be 120,000 points total even though we have 9 nights reserved on 3 separate reservations. I believe the Diamond desk agent earlier today may have misunderstood, since English was clearly not her first language, or maybe she didn't clarify exactly how many points would be charged. Regardless, if the man I spoke to at the hotel was correct, this is a much better scenario. Hopefully, none of this will matter since we fully intend to go and have an awesome anniversary trip in April!
