If you plot a "great-circle" line between LHR and AKL it passes pretty close to Tokyo. Maybe only Shanghai would provide a straightened line. Doesn't take into account transfer time
Hmm, actually now I look at the map, Shanghai would probably be worse in terms of the direct line
