It's just that we have very elderly parents and others with serious medical conditions in our extended family, so I like to know what we're in for if something were to happen last minute and we had cancel. I usually buy trip insurance to cover emergency medical and evacuation, and if it's an expensive trip, we sometimes buy cancellation coverage too. In this case, it seems there is no way to insure for cancellation of the actual room since trip insurance won't insure lost points. I haven't called the actual hotel myself since it is an expensive call so the diamond desk called for me and gave me the above information.
Expensive call? Use Skype and give them a ring.
