As somebody who has to go past Gatwick to reach either Heathrow or London City, they each have their merits not to mention their particular routes. Virgin pulling out of Gatwick reduced my use of the airport considerably, not to mention the severe cut to British Airways domestic service from there. Alas, I am therefore rarely given a choice, and my airport is chosen for me by my intended destination.

To be honest, I much preferred Gatwick in the days when British Airways was virtually the entire North terminal. And there were the city fly routes only in the south.
