Flew on an Aeroplan lowest business reward yesterday, connecting via LHR, and tried to SDC from 857 to 855. I first emailed concierge while inbound on my SQ flight. It took them 4 hours to reply to say that "as you are inflight, we advise you to contact the concierge at LHR upon arrival"; strange that they refused the request, whereas in the past I've been able to get this done over email while in flight. Maybe it's due to the fee collection.
Anyway, I arrive at LHR, and seek out the concierge; I head to the ticketing desk, where they call the concierge and put them on the phone with me. Concierge explains they are not normally permitted to touch Aeroplan tickets, but ticketing will make an exception for me and collect the SDC fee. I asked if this is the same £59 that I see in the app, which surprised the concierge that it's even an option in the app. I ask ticketing to process it and they collect the fee. An hour later I receive two email receipts from Aeroplan, one for the fee collection, another for a refund of it. I wonder if this is their work-around, just process an automatic refund?
It's a little annoying to have these hiccups and being treated like some kind of exception and bending of the rules for me, but overall I was happy that they made the change.
Oh, and concierge did make sure that my bags got retagged, and even confirmed that they were being loaded onto the aircraft. So, +1 for that!
