I would try to figure out who the station manager is in SLC and contact him. If he/she won't make this right for you, you should file an action in small claims court in Salt Lake City. Your damages are (at least) the difference between what you paid for the D1 ticket and the cheapest coach ticket that Delta sold on the flight.
