It has been helpful for us to pool small pots of miles that wouldn't amount to much on their own. We added the grandparents and an uncle to our Family membership to earn miles from their annual Abu Dhabi visits.

The one thing to be aware of is that only the Family Head can see the total Guest Miles balance and make reward bookings. This differs from a BA Exec Club Household Account, where every member can see the balance and book flights.
