Usually speaking, if you earn the required qpoints during the 12 months before your expiry date your tier will be extended the next day for one year.
But the process and decision dates they used for the various free extensions last year isn't entirely clear and may have messed with normal rules in some cases.
I wouldn't get hung up on being sold short like it's some deliberate action. The free extensions will have been processed automatically rather than by individuals looking at every member's acrtvity. So perhaps the algorithm they used wasn't sophisticated enough to catch every marginal case.
If you have a statement showing the 270 qpoints and feel you should have qualified for the 12 month renewal before the free extension was given, get in touch with them and ask if it should have been dealt with differently or where you stand now. There's not much anyone can tell you here other than the general rules and their own experiences, but QRPC may be able to give you a clearer answer about what has happened in your case.
