Personally I would just book the IB flights separate to the AA flight (use BA Avios or cash for that) with an appropriate safety margin.
Ah! Got it. I didn't realize that about nonrefundable for partner award. I can book separately, even next day out of MIA, but was hoping not to have to go to the trouble and worry wrt IRROPS. But yeah I think I'd rather have refundable. Thanks.
