It has absolutely nothing to do with elite status, but the property's own accounting dept's work. Since you have talked to the property on the reason why you could not come, they may sympathize you and waive the cancellation fee, but it is no telling until your CC is not hit by the fee down the road, for weeks or months. I hope they have a response on the App on their agreement of waiving the cancellation fee and you have taken a screen shot of such. As this is definitely an exception, not a rule.
For a No Show, points are always refunded, but the guarantee credit card will be charged for the 1 night without the taxes. It usually stated in the cancellation policy of your confirmation email or the Rate Details you can pull up when the reservation is still active.
Property may not charge your CC right away. They do it when the in house billing dept audit has caught up on their accounting.
