This is purely anecdotal, but when flying DL, I feel they are quicker to cancel flights, which in the end is better, since one can move on and get alternate flights/make alternate plans.
With AA, I have experienced that they just keep delaying a flight, keep one on the edge for hours, until they end up canceling anyway; by that time better alternate routings are already unavailable.
