I recently flew a one-way trip paid for with miles with my wife. The reservation was in coach. The day before the departure my wife saw an offer for an upgrade for first class for $199 each. She booked this upgrade for both of us and surprised me with it. Now several days after the trip we have only earned PQP's for the flights. We did earn an extra 199 PQP's each for the paid upgrade in addition to some for the mileage ticket. I was expecting to get redeemable miles for the paid upgrade. I have no status with United and was expecting 5 points per dollar which is 995 points for a $199 upgrade. Is this an reasonable expectation to get redeemable points for spend on paid upgrades?
