It surely does not take 5 minutes to check availability for mileage upgrades, so I guess that explains the common 3-5 and taking excessive amounts of time to preform simple tasks like seat selection.
Yep, for me 5 minutes seems conservative, it's usually 8-10. But I don't mind, I can do other things, and I don't have to listen to hold music.
