I wonder why lounges at resorts was such a mindbender for MAR, maybe they want to be able to nickel and dime elite guests with overpriced soft drinks... but what do I know...
We're veering off topic now but I can give two SPG examples of why Marriott's bean counters think lounges at resorts are a bad idea and introduced the prohibition: (a) Sheraton Full Moon Maldives had an excellent lounge like a private club with its own pool, boutique breakfast, snacks and beer during the day, food and wine/spirits in the evening - we didn't spend a cent on F&B at this resort over five days; (b) Sheraton Hua Hin over Christmas on points using SNAs and getting breakfast in the buffet, hot snacks and drinks during the day, hot food buffet and free flow alcohol in the bar in the evening - we barely spent a cent on additional F&B. Both lounges now closed due to Marriott. Wouldn't stay at either hotel again because there are better and better value options without the lure of an elite lounge. Bravo Marriott!
