With the advent of 'Main Cabin Extra' seats which can be selected by OWE for free, it kind of negates the need for this as F&B is included in these seats and is a published benefit.
I think that the only difference in the F&B in the AA MCE vs other AA Econ is alcohol - not noticed any food options. (Besides, a lucky few in AA Group 9 boarding get MCE since they are sometimes the only seats left).
Back to greetings - I always found it a bit odd with AA seated down the back as a BA Gold - with the look of incomprehension on the cabin crew faces since they couldn't understand why you would not be seated in business/1st.
