Your major risk going -- or intending to go -- over the pass is a landslide on the Pakistan side after the rains that can close travel for a significant period.

In any event, strongly suggest you not rush through Pakistan. Gilgit's not much but Karimabad is certainly worth a stopover.

You'll only do the pass once in your life most likely, while Beijing will always be there for a later visit.
