Should also allow AS/OW to more aggressively take on DL in SEA, where AA has retreated from some of its lofty long haul ambitions. Based in SAN, I have reason to believe AS leadership knows how to identify significant niche growth opportunities, execute successfully. Over the past 10 years or so, AS has grown from a few flights daily to PDX and SEA to a major player, with the largest number of nonstop destinations, nonstops intra-California, to the Northeast, Florida and all major Hawaiian Islands.
This is ALK's golden opportunity to take a huge leap forward; BOD should set high expectations for management, bring in experienced leadership if the current team stumbles.
I have no financial stake in ALK, never been part of the airline industry - just lots of BIS miles, AS loyalist.
LOL, didn't you just literally accuse others of being "loyalists" in another thread? (answer:yes, yes you did)
AS, by almost any measure, did a very poor job with the VX acquisition/merger. I'd hardly consider that a case of "executing successfully." But yea, I'm sure the same company/management/culture/mindset will do this one much better...
HNL as a OW Asia hub... oy... you have got to be kidding me...

P.S. And for the record, I like AS. I fly AS. I admire several things about AS. But that does NOT mean that I'll blindly accept every decision they as though its sprinkled with magic pixie dust. They have made many missteps over the last several years and they seem to be poised to make some more. I have no problem being critical of them when they do nonsensical things.
