I have some questions which I haven't been able to resolve myself (including by reading the T&Cs on the QF website), and would be grateful for your views:
Situation- I purchased with cash (via the QF website), a one-way PEY ticket from HKG-MEL (via SYD in transit).
- I then requested a Classic upgrade to J for both HKG-SYD and SYD-MEL, using QF FF points.
- The reservation had both my QF (Bronze) and AA (EXP) FF numbers.
- About 5 days before departure, my reservation disappeared from the QF mobile app. Upon checking, my QF FF had been removed without notice, leaving my AA FF on the reservation.
- I also noticed that the seat map showed significantly more empty seats in PEY than before; seats that were marked occupied (when my QF FF number had been applied) were now empty. I called QF to reinstate my QF FF, and the seat map reverted to the prior 'occupied' version. My AA FF number remained on the reservation.
Questions- Is it necessary to have a QF FF number remain on a reservation once a Classic upgrade has been requested? QF advised that the upgrade request was still valid even after my QF FF number had been removed.
- Why would the seat map 'open up' upon the removal of my QF FF number? Could it have to do with being OW Emerald (as my AA FF number had remained on the reservation)? I'd have thought QF would prioritise seat selection based on QF tier status, not other airlines (even OW airlines).
Not sure how you could easily have both QF (Bronze) and AA (EXP) FF numbers in the reservation.
At times with some systems possible to have different information in different fields but is far from the norm. Takes some effort.
The four fields are:
• FQTS – the frequent flyer program that you have status with;
• FQTV – the frequent flyer program with which you’re accruing points & status credits;
• FQTR – for award/redemption bookings, which frequent flyer program was used to make the booking; and
• FQTU – if applicable, the frequent flyer program that points for an upgrade are to be deducted from
A benefit of OW status is preferential seating. Each airline has a different definition of this preferential seating.
As a QF no status seating options are limited. OW status has priority over no status. More seat options will open up at T-80 hrs (80hrs before scheduled departure).
OW no status = QF Bronze
OW Ruby = QF sliver & AA Gold
OW Sapphire -QF Gold & AA Plat
OW Emerald (top status) = AA EXP & QF Platinum
