There are two entirely separate departed Sheraton hotels in Shanghai.

1) HUA TING SHERATON HOTEL SHANGHAI - 1986-1998
The first was the Hua Ting Sheraton Hotel Shanghai, which opened in 1986. It's the one the OP is thinking of, located across from the stadium. It was the first Sheraton in Shanghai and one of the first Western-managed hotels in China.* After it left Sheraton in 1998, the Hua Ting became part of the local Jin Jiang chain for a while, the Jin Jiang Hua Ting Hotel.

2) SHERATON GRAND SHANGHAI TAI PING YANG HOTEL/SHERATON SHANGHAI HONGQIAO HOTEL - 2002-2017
The second property opened on Sept 1, 1990 as The Westin Tai Ping Yang. It was briefly renamed The Westin Shanghai in the mid-1990s, before becoming The Westin Tai Ping Yang again. Then, in 2002, it was renovated and rebranded as the Sheraton Grand Tai Ping Yang Hotel. Soon after, the name was modified slightly, and it became the Sheraton Grand Shanghai Tai Ping Yang Hotel. Finally, in 2008, it became the Sheraton Shanghai Hongqiao Hotel, before leaving Marriott in 2017. It also became part of the Jin Jiang chain, the Hongqiao Jin Jiang Hotel.

*The Great Wall Sheraton opened one year earlier, in 1985, and was the first hotel managed by a Western chain under its own name in China. The first two foreign-managed hotels in China didn't use chain names. They were the Jianguo Hotel, opened in Beijing in 1982 by Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels (parent company of Peninsula Hotels) and the Beijing Lido Hotel, opened in 1984 by Holiday Inn and much later renamed Holiday Inn Lido Beijing.
