The counterpoint to that would be that giving the status to a SO will ultimately benefit you via the additional eupgrade credits that the 2 of you will be able to use when traveling together. Of course, it's still best to give it to someone who would also enjoy the other benefits, but if you don't know such person at least giving the pass to your SO would allow you to keep the eupgrade credits.
