Choice Hotels
guarantees that you get the lowest price if you book via their website, and they say they will give you $50 if you find a lower price. I recently booked a room via their website, then found the exact same room on booking.com for a lower price, which I also booked. I submitted a claim for the difference, and Choice denied the claim, saying they could not find the lower rate. I then emailed them to tell them they didn't need to look for the lower rate online because I actually booked the lower-priced rate, which they would be able to see in their own system. I included confirmation documents for both reservations. They denied it again, saying they couldn't find the lower-priced rate (ignoring the fact that I booked both rates).
At this point, I canceled the more-expensive booking and stayed the night using the lower-priced booking.
After returning from the trip, I took this up with their social media team, and after first ignoring me, then asking me to re-send stuff I already sent, they denied it, saying I canceled the booking I made on their website. I did cancel the more expensive booking because I was getting nowhere with their low price guarantee team and I did not want to be stuck with paying the higher price. The only reason I care about this is that the guarantee includes a $50 gift card if you find a lower price.
So, to summarize, while I still had two reservations and could have kept the more expensive one, they simply ignored evidence that I had booked a lower price, forcing me to cancel the more expensive booking and keep the cheaper one. And now they are refusing to send me the $50 they owe me according to the terms of their guarantee.
