We are returning in February but have a couple of questions which we'd be great if anyone who's been recently could answer please!
1. Have the beach villas been renovated this year? If so are they better / worse than before?
2. It looks like Rangali Bar serves dinner in the evening properly now (without the need to rush there and place an order before 6pm like before). Is that right?

Yes, in regards to #1. I believe all have now been renovated. We stayed in #213 and I had the following observation. I have also stayed in the pre-updates and prefer the new changes. There is no longer a desk in the room though, if that is important to you.
I also wanted to add that Beach Villas have been recently renovated. They now include a shower in the bathroom, in addition to the outdoor shower that received some new tile work. The closet also has a new layout from what I remember with more storage. One of the biggest changes is the outside tubs are now gone and replaced with a swinging bed. I actually prefer the swinging bed as we never got warm water in the past from any of the outdoor tubs in the BV. They have also added new window shades to the patio doors and a curtain on the back window by the outdoor shower, for those of you who want some more privacy when showering outside.
