I guess they're so far behind on other things like Club Suite and only have so much hangar space.
Well done again, Jason Mahoney ! 👏😡
I wouldn't say a positive thing about Mahoney not even if the man personally came to my door and gave me £50, but in this case the problem isn't Jason. Totally, at least.
BA chose, as their WiFi provider, the 2Ku product offered by GoGo (which in turn relies on geostationary orbit satellites beaming in Ku band offered by SES and Intelsat). Problem is, the Gogo antennae began
developing cracks. To my knowledge, a new radome has not been certified from the supplier.
The 787-9, if I remember correctly, were initially line-fitted with a Panasonic product, but I recall that it was ultimately discontinued (though annoyingly I cannot find any source to back me up).
As GoGo couldn't provide a new antenna/couldn't certify a new one, BA went on the market for a new one, and has AFAIK found it. I can't find public sources naming the supplier, so I won't say its name, but in my opinion it's the one they ought to have gone with all along. Anyhow, Boeing now need to certify the new antenna on the plane (it's already mounted on other airlines but not on BA's) and then they'll do the work down at Gatwick, or so I understand, Time horizon is 2025/2026 due to space at Boeing, certification work, fleet availability and so on.
