Preferred is discontinued, but you could ask if it is still available as a downgrade option. I believe you can also downgrade to Custom Cash (despite the name, this is a native Thank You card.)
Double Cash should work, but because it originated as a cashback card, and was transformed into a Thank You card in a two-step process, I would not be 100% confident that the system would preserve the points balance.
