However, with regards to breakfast, they told me if have breakfast on arrival then I can't have breakfast on the day of departure since people typically don't get breakfast on the day they arrive. Not sure if that had happened to you.

I am told the same. I usually skip the breakfast upon arrival in the morning and just go to sleep.
My preferred hotel is still the Grand Hyatt. Even if the room is not available when I check in early, the lounge is nice and no restrictions on having breakfast there.
