There are E-Z Pass retailers in New York where you can buy a transponder over the counter.

I have one issued by the NYS Thruway Authority which has no maintenance fees. Those are not sold in NYC, but are available in Yonkers, just North of NYC. Not sure if the ones sold in NYC have a maintenance fee.

Just two trips that I can foresee right now. From Queens area to Florentine Gardens in NJ and back.

Maybe one other trip that may need to use the toll in there somewhere. But likely not.

Didn’t want to bother hunting around for a place to buy it during the trip. Hopping to have it set up and ready to go. Without paying rental car toll fees.
