Can't speak for the OP but for me, generally, there are some turnoffs that may result in a politely declined upgrade (or via the app upgrade punting back to booked room type (e.g. I hate rooms on the first floor (not crazy about the 2nd floor either) and prefer to be far away from the elevator....) Sometimes that's exactly where the bulk of upgrades live and if the upgrade is a "meh" type or I'm only there for a night or whatever sometimes it's not worth it
