Yeah, some properties go above and beyond brand standards - I've had breakfast given at AC Tokyo Ginza, but it's easier to assume you won't get it as many seem to expect a breakfast at this brand and then review poorly or feel cheated, as above.
If a hotel goes above and beyond, that's great and I will definitely go back. I simply don't think it's reasonable that a breakfast is made of of anything less than what you get at a Super 8. Also, hotels that do this are not thinking about treating elite nice - again I'm not expecting a big buffet spread or anything remotely like that.
I know hotels are businesses - but there are many approaches to manage a business. Basically this thread's aim is to let people know which hotel does not live up to the reasonable breakfast standard - once again something that is not just something similar to the welcome goodie bag from a Fairfield Inn (Maybe you don't stay at those brands so you might not know how they express their welcome to elites) - that bag is on top of the welcome point/amenity you get. I have gotten a fruit, granola bar and a bottle of water in one of those bags - and that is not my breakfast.
