For those who've received their GCs, are the expiration dates pretty far out? Say, a few years? If so, I guess they can be saved for a domestic trip and you won't lose out on the benefit... TIA!
My expiration date recently received is 05/2031
The insert with the card states “the card is accepted at all hotels within the Hilton portfolio.” It also says “For cardholder agreement and information regarding US Dollar / foreign currency exchange rates see Amexgiftcard.com/Hilton” Clicking through that site will lead you
to these terms for personal cards. Where it states :
Where can the Card be used? Are there any usage restrictions?
THE CARD MAY ONLY BE USED AT THE FOLLOWING SELECT MERCHANTS AND RETAILERS AROUND THE WORLD THAT ACCEPT THE AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD (“SELECT MERCHANTS”):
Hilton Worldwide portfolio of brands, which include Waldorf AstoriaTM Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels and ResortsTM, Canopy by HiltonTM, Hilton Hotels and Resorts, Curio Collection by HiltonTM, Doubletree by HiltonTM, Tapestry Collection by HiltonTM, Embassy Suites by HiltonTM, Hilton Garden Inn®, Hampton by HiltonTM, Tru by HiltonTM, Homewood Suites by HiltonTM, Home2 Suites by HiltonTM, and Hilton Grand VacationsTM.
And:
How are transactions made in foreign currencies processed?
If you make a purchase at an establishment in a foreign currency, it will be converted into U.S. dollars on the date it is processed by us or our agents. Unless a particular rate is required by applicable law, you authorize us to choose a conversion rate that is acceptable to us for that date. Currently, the conversion rate we use for a transaction in a foreign currency is no greater than (a) the highest official conversion rate published by a government agency, or (b) the highest interbank conversion rate identified by us from customary banking sources on the conversion date or the prior business day. This conversion rate may differ from rates in effect on the day of your transactions. Charges converted by Merchants will be billed at the rates these Merchants use. We will not charge a conversion fee for transactions made in foreign currencies.
I have not tried, but the terms state that if an international Hilton property accepts American Express, these gift cards can be used.
