Resort and parking fees you didn't get in the Hyatt partnership are easily pushing $75-100 a day for Strip hotel guests. So for me it's that much worse. That being said it's ch-ching for MGM so I get where they are coming from, it's easy to give away a food credit for a muffin and coffee or a beer at the bar for $40-100 a day + the room rate.

Basically this is the use case where you're coming out ahead: Hyatt is useless for work travel patterns and Marriott is more useful. The FT "maximizer" use case is DOA but that's not a downside for MGM. They would rather sell the rooms for deep discount on Expedia than Marriott, TBH (no need to hand out benefits).

I was MGM gold via my Hyatt status and MGM would get a few vegas stays a year out of me since I didn't have to pay resort fees and during special events when MGM in detroit was charging for parking, I would go to the casino and park and then eat at one of their restaurants.
If there's something going on in Detroit, I'm sure not going to be going to MGM since I'll be stuck paying for parking and for my vegas stays I don't pay resort fees at Caesars with my diamond status and my corporate rate waives resort fees at the Hilton Grand vacation club I like. No brainer to stay at Caesars or HGVC where I don't pay for a resort fee and have free parking than to stay at a MGM for just 25% bonus points.
Pretty much my use case, I almost always have a car in Vegas. I don't have the Barclays Wyndham card that gives out free Caesars Diamond but the MGM/Marriott partnership being complete weaksauce is a big incentive to get it because I can save $95+ on a two day stay on the Strip, easy. I can also pick up stays at places close to the Strip, or actual downtown as an alternative to paying (Strip room rate + $75-100 a night). My guess is that a bunch of Hilton and off-Strip/downtown joints just picked up a lot of my business from MGM.

That being said I am not convinced MGM is all that sad about losing people who are exempt from major revenue raisers for them so long as the good times are rolling.
