$900 Tumi luggage pieces are designed for private charter aircraft, not to be carelessly tossed around by underpaid baggage workers. I do have a Tumi, but use it exclusively as a carry on. I've had it for close to 10 years and it is as shiny as ever. For my checked luggage I buy Swiss Gear from Target, and always ensure I pay no more than $150. From my experience, $150 is the magic number that AS baggage services have discretion to give out when the suitcase is inevitably damaged.
