Thought I would add a dp for my son who was born at the start of Dec as I was sort of surprised/impressed by how quickly I was able to do it.
Tl:dr He got his passport and GE approval (including interview) done in 6 weeks 1 day from birth.
Longer timeline (based in CA):
Birth Certificate available at the county 10 days after birth
SSN card arrived 2 week after birth via USPS.
Post office passport acceptance appointment at 2.5 weeks. I was sort of surprised at the amount of availability on these. Was very easy to schedule. Passport sent regular service (not expedited).
Passport checks cashed the next week (Xmas slowed this down a day)
Passports mailed back another week later (NY slowed this down a day) -- big kudos to the gov't for speeding this up from the really slow slog they had the last few years.
GE application submitted around 5 weeks after birth.
GE conditionally approved 2 days later.
GE appointments at SFO were fully booked through April but used some tools (namely
https://www.ttptracker.com and GOESBot on X) to monitor. Have to move really fast to snag these but there are a of slots that open throughout the day as people (I guess) get approved via interview on arrival.
Was able to move up the appointment to 6 weeks 1 day. Appt was a simple photo -- no finger prints. Main reason I was pushing to quickly get interview done was wife also needed to go in for name change (she also got her passport in a similar timeline (actually one less day on both ends) and the officer processed that while he did my son's interview as well -- so now we don't have to leave mom behind at precheck

.
Hope others are able to have as much success!
