Even if people cancel award seats there is no guarantee the availability will come back. Given the lack of difficulty in selling seats to Australia, I think your chances to seeing availability is very slim

Premium economy - for me - means elbow space, shoulder space, fewer people and more leg room. The first three aren't available in an exit row so it makes it worth while, but it depends on what you personally value.
