Account Hacked, Points Res Cancelled, Availability Gone, Hotel wont make exception
I woke up yesterday to emails that I'd apparently changed my account email and password. Wrong. My account had been hacked. I called IHG and a very nice guy in their fraud department worked with me to secure my account. I tell the guy that I had a 3 night points booking for the Intercontinental Yokohama but that the person who hacked me cancelled the reservation. (I assume to use the points). He tells me he'll contact the hotel to see whether they'd make an exception and rebook my reservation. He contacts the hotel but their manager says that there is no availability and that they won't allow me to re-book on points. The fraud guy then tells me there's nothing more he can do and he gives me 30,000 points for the hassle.
Is there really nothing more that can be done? I understand it's Japan, but they really can't bend the rules here? I appreciate the points but I'm miffed that my points redemption is collateral damage here.
