No agents present. There is a posted sign saying check-in counter opens from 4:45am to 7pm. I decided that I should wait for the agent to show up at 4:45am to deposit my luggage.
at 4:45am. 2 agents walked to the counter, but entered a door right away, ignoring the 20-30 people lining up who have been waiting for them to show up.
Finally at 5am, the long-awaited agents walked out of the door and start checking in customers.
I waited for 30 minutes to deposit my luggage after using easy-check-in.
Why easy-checkin opens at 4:30am but no agent take care of the luggage until 5am?
Why check-in counter opens 15 minutes later than the posted hour?
I feel sorry for those who have been standing in-line for about an hour waiting for the check-in counter to open at 5am.
As a reference,
Jetblue agents start work at 4:30am.
American agents start work before I arrive at 4:20am
My BUF-ORD flight departs 9 minutes later than scheduled departure time.
Keep customer waiting... not following the posted hour, late departure ... a collective sign of a bankrupt airline?
The BUF airport staff for united leave a lot to be desired, esp on early morning flights. I had one of those 1000 mile upgrade certs that you get with the credit card and had to argue with the guy over whether or not I was eligible for the upgrade. This happened even after I pointed out that because I was a 1p it didn't matter what fare I flew on (I underlined the rule for him ahead of time and he still argued with me). I have tended (I've done the whole early morning flight routine out of BUF a few times in the past year) to notice that they show up late, by the time I get there around 4:30-5, there is already a sizeable line. People aren't directed to the right line so even if you have status it doesn't mean a thing because the status line is typically full of people without it. I have often times waited longer for a gate agent than I have at the TSA security line. Ugh.
