Yes I too saw that caustic response from that poster and am glad that it has been removed (presumably, by the mods). I hope this hasn't been a turnoff for you to contribute to FT.

Note this is not a loophole per se but how things are priced by different schemes.

Last year I was helping a family member buy LHR-CPT roundtrip tickets in Y... cash prices were going at circa £950 but with Y redemption using minimum Avios and maximum cash, this works out to be about £600 (using 1p per Avios valuation). The snag is redemption availability can be limited, wonderful if you can find them.

That said, I was trying to do the same for another family member do the same for SYD-LHR roundtrip also in Y... but the redemption prices don't work out cheaper. So it depends on route, timing, peak vs off peak for redemptions, etc. You win some, you lose some - it's the essence of the "game".
