Something else to consider is that Flying Blue miles are much easier to use and will get you much further than Delta miles. Even if your status isn't high enough to be meaningful, you could get a roundtrip business class from US East Coast to Paris for 50k Flying Blue miles (sometimes) whereas Delta's lowest price is 220k miles. This may not play into your equation, but it's the main reason I switched my earnings from Delta to Flying Blue. Though I now fly United more than Delta, I previously reached Delta Gold from international work travel.
