In EWR now for first time in awhile (have to reset my “DAYS SINCE EWR CONNECTION: ___” counter) thanks to my flight out of Dulles swapping to a 737-9max and promptly canceling. I went through Terminal A right after it opened but was running to get the bus to C as it was raining and it took 90 minutes from landing to making it to our empty gate, so didn’t look around much.

It’s a nice change but too big. The last couple times I originated in Newark I flew Spirit out of B and was literally curbside to gate in 7-8 minutes (and left my room at the Element in Harrison about 30 minutes before arriving at gate). Some moving walkways would be nice but the trend in new airport construction is to not build them. I know when I get to CLT I will get to walk a mile to the shuttle from the UA gates since while there are moving walkways they seldom work. The 22 pieces of metal in my leg don’t love that.

Nice WX at Newark so arrived 45 minutes early into C115 and took bus to A. UC in A is nice especially food spread but lounge is not very full. Sitting behind the bar and nobody is in my field of vision. Massive crowd at the front but walked around them and right through the automated gates. Sounded like lots of one time pass users.

My complaint and I have this about many airports/agents is that the gate below is either using the wrong speaker zone for announcements or it’s set up crappy. Getting blasted by every boarding announcement by the agent which is followed immediately by the exact same thing in automated form. When I was a station manager I used to blast my agents if I heard gate announcements somewhere in the terminal other than their immediate gatehouse (and I allowed ONE final boarding call broadcast over the whole place… because a final call is a singular item and if you give 9 of them it loses all meaning, but that’s my soapbox….)
