Hi everyone,
While the new Terminal A at EWR is very nice, it is a 15-20 minute walk from the (legacy) AirTrain station. The new AirTrain is not expected to enter service before 2029 (at the earliest). Until then, Terminal A passengers who want to use Amtrak or NJ Transit to get to EWR are stuck with a long walk to/from the AirTrain (some of which is outdoors).
As a temporary fix to this problem, I wonder if United would allow passengers to check in at Terminal C (a short ride from the train station) and then ride the shuttle bus airside.
The reverse (checking in at A for a flight departing C) could also be beneficial to a different class of travelers -- those who rent cars. The car rental facility is a short walk from Terminal A. In theory, one could return the car, walk to A, check the bags there, and then take the airside bus to C.
Of course, this short-cut (if allowable) only works for departing passengers as well as arriving passengers who are not checking bags. The rest are stuck with the 20-minute walk.
Do you happen to know if United allows departing passengers at EWR to check in and go through security at a terminal other than of the departing flight?
Thank you!
You should be able to use check in facilities (including checking luggage) at either Terminal A or Terminal C, regardless of which terminal your flight is scheduled to depart from.
