Christmas 2022 I flew business NRT-JFK for 60,000 on JAL, which cost me $1200 one way, which I considered reasonable.

They still offer it for 70,000, but of course dates aren't what you need in peak summer.

FYI: Summer vacation for Japanese in school is generally end of July to end of August.
