Having just had a rental car accident in NYS, I learned that NYS has consumer protection laws that limit CDW/LDW costs to a max of about $15/day. As a test, I just looked at Avis for the NYC area - picking up a rental at JFK, it's $15/day to protect the car. At EWR/Newark NJ, it's $33/day.
That's true. But I don't think that NYS regulates CDW rates for cargo vans rented by U-Haul.
