Interesting that this just came out. I'm sitting on a WS flight with a friend right now, and he was telling me about just this issue, which he has noticed when trying to use his WS MC WE companion vouchers.
To be honest, I really haven't noticed it until now. I usually redeem the vouchers (whether from the CC or thresholds) for Canada-US itineraries, which have such high taxes and so many fees and taxes that I just haven't really seen it.
I've done a quick scroll through some recent bookings, and I see on revenue tickets, YQ seems to be YQI, when applicable (saw this on one domestic trip and one TATL). When there's a companion voucher, the companion gets charged YQF. I have yet to see YQF on any revenue tickets. I've also yet to find a companion voucher booking where the first passenger had any YQ of any sort, whether YQI, YQF, or YQsomethingelse.
I was just thinking I should compile my data points and then post here about it, but since the thread is up and running... I'll have to go do more digging on past bookings, but I'm very displeased about this right now, and thinking of demanding a refund from WS for the BS fees I may have paid.
