The Ritz Carlton is now the new/best kid in town in Portland. I was definitely skeptical before spending my sister’s birthday week here, but from the status recognition, to modern facilities, to food and service, we were definitely impressed.
With a last minute plan change to celebrate a birthday to avoid a potential snow storm, we decided to finally check out the newly opened Ritz. A quick chat with the reservation team cheerily and welcomingly guaranteed an upgrade to an executive corner suite which definitely set a good tone and first impression for this visit.
Valet team is friendly and the gentleman at check in was equally welcoming and informative. The lobby in the first floor was striking in a quiet, but elegant and modern way. Nothing over the top, but the tall draperies and handsome fireplace and seating areas, really is just my kind of style.
The hotel sits on a 40 plus floor building, with the hotel rooms and suites occupying the first 20 floors. Our suite on the corner of the 13th floor was immaculate. Doesn’t hurt that the place is only a few months in operation. The neutral, modern quiet elegance continues all throughout the room. The view of Portland is expansive and a bottle of Prosecco was waiting inside the room further acknowledging our celebration. If I were to be critical of anything about the accommodations I’d say that even though the bathroom is spacious and beautiful, the water pressure was definitely a bit underwhelming. The toiletries from Philosykos were also abundant in big containers, but I’m not a big fan of the scent.
We visited Bellpine for drinks and also breakfast. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing with beautiful views. There is also an open balcony just past the bar which allows further enjoyment of the surroundings 20 floors up. Service is definitely the highlight of our visit. David, one of the servers during breakfast, was so welcoming and tried everything he could to ensure we enjoy our meal. Honestly, the level of service here is what blows The Nines out of the upper category in the Portland market in my opinion. The employees genuinely seem to want to please without the air of pretentiousness. All the food we ordered were equally high in quality and we look forward to bringing friends and families here.
The facilities are all first rate with huge, inviting gym in the 19th floor. The pool is also a must, with again, beautiful views of Portland. We also took a peek at the Club lounge which seems to be operating and looks quite inviting.
Overall, we were impressed with the Ritz Portland. There’s certainly a new kid in town, and if this level of service continues, this is now the best place to stay in Portland.
