Flying with checked bags on a saver award domestic itinerary with a 2h layover in Chicago. Turns out a close buddy of mine is in downtown Chicago that day and wanted to see if we could grab lunch. Can I opt for a later flight on the second leg once I land in Chicago? Does that fall under SDC? I don't mind if my checked bags go on the earlier flight.

I tried to intentionally book a longer layover but doesn't seem to work. Piecewise multisegment doubles the miles required since it treats it as two one-ways.
