Thx
In 2022 we emailed reservations to ask for the upgrade cost for the 2 queen room (we were also traveling with our two kids) and how to go about upgrading from a standard points booking. They instructed us the upgrade cost was $150/nt and to make the points booking and let them know and they would switch the room. When I emailed them with the confirmation numbers and request for the 2 queens, they made the change and informed me the upgrade was complimentary. That was a nice, unexpected surprise as we were willing to pay. On the other hand, the 2 queen room is identical to the standard room, just with an extra bed. But I can see trying to prevent four adults from sharing one room on an awards stay.
I always recommend planning for a fee (that you've been informed about, of course) and then being pleasantly surprised if there isn't one.
