For those interested in side quests from Nagoya, I recommend Nakasendo (Edo era postal towns) trail. It is quite beautiful during Sakura season and it wasn’t very crowded.

There is a well maintained section from Magome to Nagiso, and it is pretty easy to get there and back from Nagoya. Do check trains timetable and trains are not very frequent.
