ITA and duty to care

Booked a trip from Germany to Haneda via Linate for September this year.

Today my flight outbound got rebooked with an impossible connection as the new departure time from Germany was 5 hours later than the departure time out of Rome.
I got rebooked on a flight a day earlier from Germany to Linate, but that means staying overnight and travelling to Japan via Rome the next day. There were no same day alternatives
The positive was that the service desk picked up the phone within minutes and the employee was efficient and professional with good English.

I know I do not qualifiy for compensation, but wonder whether ITA will pay for the involuntary hotel night at the airport or will I have to pay myself?
