The following is the current JAL cabin crew hierarchy or career path for Tokyo based FAs. Foreign based FAs have different career paths since they cannot fly on domestic flights. After the training, FAs receive the title of Cabin Attendant. Within cabin attendants, the hierarchy is:

Cabin Attendant:
1. Domestic flights
2. International economy class
3. International business class- short/medium haul flights
4. International economy class in charge.

After the cabin attendant position, there is a lead cabin attendant position. The hierarchy among lead cabin attendants is:

Lead Cabin Attendant:
1. International business class- long haul/trans-oceanic flights
2. International business class in charge (qualify for international first class service from here)
3. Domestic lead- narrow body

Then the last position before the management position for JAL FAs is chief cabin attendant. The hierarchy among chief cabin attendants is:

Chief Cabin Attendant:
1. Domestic lead- wide body
2. International lead

After the chief cabin attendant position is a management position, group leader. Every FAs at JAL belongs to a group that consists of 20-25 FAs, and each group has a group leader who will guide FAs with their career path and manage other work-related FA functions. Group leaders also occasionally do have flight duty, it is not 100% desk job.

There is training involved to move up the hierarchy. Training from Lead Cabin Attendant 1 to Lead Cabin Attendant 2 is supposed to be extensive because the training also involves international first class service which can be a week lond training.
