This is indeed the "lightest possible abuse of the system" as mentioned above. (because you are checking in yourself and paying yourself)
It is worth having at least one of your parent's names added to the reservation. Sometimes the room key gets deprogrammed, and some hotels are really quite sticklers about only giving a replacement to somebody listed as a guest.
